Pajamas, Koh Chang - hostel review

Pajamas is relatively flashpacker at £11 per night, but it's definitely over and above in quality and fun!

Location 5/5
AWESOME. Klong Prao beach is between the northern white sands beach (very family and touristy) and lonely beach (backpacker central and parties 24/7), providing access to the best  of both. Lonely beach parties are incredible, but for me it was definitely best to choose to go to and then leave when I'd had enough! Whilst there are LOTS of very cheap hostels on lonely beach, you can never leave the party and the partygoers. Klong Prao is still pretty undeveloped and so whilst there are some nice bars and restaurants, it's definitely a lot more chilled than other options on the island but still offers great facilities.

Pajamas is located right on the beach, with a private bridge to take you from the open deck with swimming pool to the beach itself. Lovely restaurant just next door serves huge portions of traditional Thai dishes for 50-70 baht (£1-1.50) and also all forms of western food. With over 200 dishes on the menu, you'll be just fine! It's also a seafood speciality restaurant and bar so I'd recommend filling up on all forms of fish which you can guarantee is fresh as it comes!

Dorms 5/5
Lovely 8 bed dorms split into female only and mixed. Each bed has curtains to give you some privacy (first hostel I've found this in!) and each bed has a little shelf and charging ports for ease of access. Dorm area is accessed by key card and dorms themselves are accessed by dorm specific keys.

Management 5/5
Always helpful and friendly, JJ and her team were wonderful! Whatever your needs they will try to accommodate, and they have great suggestions for what to do if you're stuck for inspiration or spoilt for choice!

Socialising 5/5
Each day there was some form of organised fun - waterfall trip, dinner on the beach, part on lonely beach, etc. None were compulsory and there was never any pressure to join, but it's an excellent way to meet new people without even having to think! Lots of spaces to hang out and it's a great atmosphere to easily meet people and have fun. Equally if you're in need of a bit of "me" time, it's a great place to snuggle down on a beanbag and read a book in the company of others. Very fun, easy going, and a perfect place to chill out and meet interesting people.

Facilities 5/5
Outside pool and decking area
Covered but open decking area with beanbags, sofas, tables
Kitchen area for self catering
Lots of folders about activities to do on the island such as fishing, island hopping, scuba diving, etc
Washing machines
Fast wifi - good for skyping and photo uploads
Desktop computer
Towels and comfy bedding provided
Free beach mats, snorkelling kits, books, and ping pong kits for you to use and return

Overall 25/25
I'd recommend at least part of your stay on Koh Chang to be at Pajamas. If you're a party animal then head to Lonely Beach first and then migrate northwards for some R&R. Pajamas has everything possible you could want and if there's something you need they will do their best to provide! Great value at 600 baht per night - relatively pricey for backpacking, but it's so worth it.
